Philosophy of the Program
MVP's first week, June 25 - 29, provides the opportunity for girls of all abilities ages 9 - 13 to have their own division for game play, contests, and development of basketball fundamentals. Then older and/or more advanced players will find the level of competition they are looking for during our second week at the "Skills Academy." There is a choice to send girls to the first two, the last two, or all four days during this holiday week. There will be two girls-only groups at the Skills Academy, ages 11 - 13 and 14 - 16. Our goal both weeks is to ensure that each camper realizes her potential while having fun.
How the Girls Group is Organized
On Monday of the June 25 week, balanced teams will be created for competitive play in a girls-only 9 - 13 division. Each team will have a blend of more and less experienced players so everyone will find good match-ups in game situations. During skill development segments the girls will sometimes be separated into two groups based on age and ability so that coaches can provide instruction at the appropriate level.
During the 4-day skills academy, AAU, JV or Varsity players will find intensive skill development with top female coaches. Standout players in local leagues like CYO and Town Rec will also fit in well this week.
Although there is no girls-only programming this year after the Skills Academy, experienced female players may sign up and play with the boys during any of our weeks from July 9 - Aug. 3 in White Plains. Determination on placement will be made the first Monday of each week. Last year we typically had about one female player per team in our 9 - 10 and 11-12 age groups, plus a few in the 13 - 16 age group. Over the years, MVP has been the local day camp of choice for some of the top high school female players in the county.
