July 10 - Aug. 4: No girls-only divisions, but experienced female players may sign up and test their skills against the boys.
Philosophy of the Program
If a girl is too old for our co-ed program but not experienced enough for our skills academy or to compete against boys, MVP's first week, June 26 - 30, has a program just for her. Older and more advanced players will find the level of competition they are looking for during our "Skills Academy" from July 5 - 7 in Rye. The girls-only age group here will be ages 11 - 16. Our goal both weeks is to ensure that each camper realizes her potential while having fun.
How the Girls Group is Organized
On Monday of the June 26 week, balanced teams will be created for competitive play in a girls-only 9 - 13 division. Each team will have a blend of more and less experienced players so everyone will find good match-ups in game situations. During skill development segments the girls will sometimes be separated into two groups based on age and ability so that coaches can provide instruction at the appropriate level.
During the 3-day skills academy, AAU, JV or Varsity players will find intensive skill development with top female coaches. Standout players in local leagues like CYO and Town Rec will also be considered. There will be one girls-only group ages 11 - 16 during these three days but they will frequently break up into smaller groups for personalized training commensurate with their skill level.
Although there is no girls-only programming this year after the Skills Academy, experienced female players may sign up and play in the boys division that best suits their ability level any of our weeks from July 10 - Aug. 4. Determination on placement will be made the first Monday of each week. For example, during out final week last year six girls ages 12 - 13 played in our boys 11-12 division and were placed on six different teams. By all accounts they had a blast and really improved. In previous years some of the counties top female varsity players have held their own in our boys 13 - 16 division. Many have gone on to play college basketball and some have come back to coach for us..
